The Greensboro Amateur Radio Association is a club
made up of people with diverse interests that share a common
bond, Amateur Radio. GARA is a public-service oriented club.
As an Amateur Radio operator, you can communicate by two-way
radio with other amateurs, also known as hams, across town
or around the world.
Anyone can be a ham - no matter what age, sex or physical
ability.
Our meetings are held the fourth Monday each month at the
Golden Corral off Wendover Ave. in Greensboro. The meeting
usually begins around 7:15 with everyone gathering to eat
about 6:30 p.m. If you have an interest in Ham Radio, you
are more than welcome to attend.
DON'T
FORGET! - READ "THE
"FEED LINE"- GARA's informative monthly
publication for all your amateur radio news in Guilford
County and surrounding areas.
Area "new-be" Hams take
part in a two-day "Boot Camp Weekend" August
9 & 10, sponsored by GARA, with instructors, Chris
Thompson, K4HC, seated on far upperleft and Rick Mainhart,
WB3EXR left of the screen. The class was in cooperation
withGuilford County Emergency Services.

Ed Buffington,
W4VGZ, became a silent key August 2.
The notice was listed in the August 4, News &
Record.
Ed was friends with a lot of Greensboro Hams. The
obituary listed Ed as a pastor serving the Brookwood
Baptist Church for the past eight years following
a career with Western Electric. No association with
amateur radio was mentioned, only his ownership of
Evans Custom Amplifiers. Ed was more active on the
Burlington repeaters, but attended the Thursday lunch
bunch occasionally.
Our thoughs and prayers go out to Ed's family.
